Welcome!

What is this?

Welcome to Falcon Scott Productions, a podcast company brought to you by Steven Godfrey and Ryan Nanni.

And what is a Falcon Scott?

R. Falcon Scott was an explorer with the British Royal Navy, famous for two Antarctic expeditions: On the first, Scott became one of the first humans to step foot on the Polar Plateau. On the second, he died. Since his death on Trip #2, Scott’s legacy has bounced between “valorous hero” and “ill-prepared buffoon” and back again.

As digital media veterans, we embrace the intrepidness of Scott’s ambition to seek the unknown, and we’re also fascinated by the interpretative arc of his final journey. What does it mean about the world when one man can go from fame to infamy to something in the middle, all long after his demise?

So this is a show about a dead British Navy officer?

Sorry, no.

Ok, so it’s about the Atlanta Falcons?

No, though we get how that also scratches the “doomed hero” itch.

Well, what are you actually making?

Two things:

  1. We’re creating more special limited projects, like 2024’s “Who Killed College Football?,” but with new collaborators and subject matter.

  2. Welcome to “Phantom Island,” a new weekly show where Godfrey and Ryan pick apart topics of interest across the sports world. Our goal is to explore concepts and ideas (hello, R. Falcon) without landing directly on STRONG TAKES

The Phantom Island podcast feed will also be the home for all the ongoing content you love, like Godfrey’s “Single Wing,” a football-turned-life-advice podcast, Ryan’s paean to tribalism, “We’re Not All Like This,” and other new shows we can’t talk about just yet 👀.

I thought you guys just did college football?

We did! We do! Falcon Scott will talk college football, but a lot of other sports as well. Exploration is growth. We’ve already got plans to pick apart golf, wrestling, women’s basketball, and a lot more. Plus, Ryan needed a place to talk about the Eagles, and Godfrey just found out soccer existed.

Hey, what’s that Homefield logo doing there?

As we launch this new project, we want to work with innovative advertising partners who feel like a good match for the shows we’re building and the audience for whom we are creating them.

Wow, you’re right, Homefield Apparel is EXACTLY that kind of innovative partner, a company that holds itself to an incredibly high standard when it comes to quality and design while regularly pushing into new spaces and ideas. Like, for instance, sponsoring “Phantom Island.”

We’re very excited to work with Homefield as we roll this project out, we thank them for their support, and we promise that Ryan will dial the “unhinged ad read” down from 11 to, like, a seven or so.

When is this happening?

“Phantom Island” shows will start May 7, with (roughly) two shows a week. Starting in June, some shows will be exclusive to subscribers, but we’ll always have at least one show a week open to everyone.

Another subscription service? What wonderful news! Where do I sign up?

Easy there, consumer. We’ll hit you up next week when the first show is up, and we’ll provide more details about subscription options soon. Just let us clean the house up a little. Our moms would be horrified at the state of the bathroom.
